12v Solar Complete system Wiring diagram & install instructions
Brief:
The unit is intended to be mounted on a flat surface (wall or framed structure) with fitted cables safely connected to the battery, grounding point and solar panel. The 12v outlets are then fed internally through the wall and out through the units allocated grommets found adjacent to the 12v fuse block, then connecting them to the fuse block. A rear cable access hole is required and so a template has been provided to mark out the hole (if required).
The Victron connect app is then required to manage and monitor the new system. CLICK HERE for link to Victron connect download and info.
After checking all connections are safe and correctly installed, the system is ready to be switched on.
Pre-installation measures:
Solar panel is mounted and cable/extension cable is fed to the unit mounting position.
Mount 12v outlets and run cable to the units mounting position.
Ensure the surrounding structure around where the unit will be is stable enough and will not become compromised while traveling.
Unit weighs 5.2kg.
Both Battery Isolator and Solar Breaker are switched in the off position.
Instructions:
1. Rear cable access hole.
If the unit is to be frame mounted skip this step however the template provided will prove useful.
Take the template and hold to position on wall/surface. The template is the same size as the unit so ensure to level accordingly.
With a marker draw out the cut out hole and remove material with appropriate tools (typically a jigsaw or router).
Cleaning/sanding any sharp edges to ensure rear cables have no contact with anything that can damage the integrity of cables over time or/and in transit. Suitable cable channel can be use when cables have the possibility of contact with sharp edges.
2. Connect DC ground.
The black ground cable (with m8 terminal) can be found at the rear of the board and is to be connected permanently to a suitable grounding point in the vehicle.
If installing the DC-DC add-on it is recommended that both grounding points be installed at the same time on the same single point.
3. Connect Solar Panel to unit.
With the hole now complete you can connect the MC4 connectors from your solar panel to the rear of the unit. Ensuring there is enough excess solar cable to better access the panel while installing or for any future maintenance or additions.
Alternatively: The PV cables can be fed from the front of the board or removed entirely and connected directly to the PV breaker.
Also Alternatively: It is possible to remove the MC4 cable connection component from the solar breaker and connect the solar cable directly to the solar breaker itself.
Tip: you may find it easier to do step 4 and then step 3.
4. Connecting outputs.
Bring all 12v inputs (USB, Lights etc) through rear grommet holes surrounding the fuse box. Negative at bottom and Positive cables adjacent to fuse box. Keeping note of which cable relates to which output.
5. Mount unit to wall.
Having screws (provided) and driver (not provided) ready carefully bring the unit flush to the mounting surface and screw to mount, ensuring unit is not pinching any rear cables against the mounting surface. Screw to surface.
6. Connect outlets to 12v fuse box.
Remove 12v fuse block cover (pinch sides toward bottom of 12v fuse box cover to release). Connect 12v outputs (USBs, Lights etc) to fuse block terminals. Positive cables on right and left of the block and negative at bottom.
Connections are typically made with O ring terminals sized for the intended cable.
Do not insert blade fuses into 12v fuse block until step 10.
Ensure connections are firm and correct before proceeding any further.
7. Connect unit to battery.
Connect battery leads to battery. Battery leads can be found fed from the bottom of the unit and are pre-selected sized terminals at the point of purchase.
Turn on battery isolator, lights on the Victron MPPT unit will flash to indicate the unit is receiving power.
8. Victron connect App and selecting battery type.
Visit app store on your smart phone device and proceed to search for Victron Connect. Download and follow Victron provided instructions for setup.
Switch/turn on Battery isolator switch, which will send power throughout the system in-order to become Bluetooth visible .
Find MPPT device in app device list password info can be found on stickers at rear of unit and at top of Victron MPPT.
Victron provide “Battery Preset” in settings that are relevant to each battery type.
By successfully selecting which battery type you have you are able to continue to step 10.
10. Add blade fuses to fuse box.
Isolate the system by switching the battery isolator switch to the off position and Insert correctly size blade fuses into the 12v fuse box for your previously installed outlets (from step 6).
11. All done
Push Solar isolator into the on position (with trip switch up)
The system is now be visibly active and working. It is very important to double check all connections are safe and correctly installed, with no risk of becoming damaged during use, travel or while converting/constructing.
